Project Can’t: Why I Turned the Word ‘Can’t’ Into My Fuel

Project Cant is more than just a concept it’s a vaccine to a worldwide pandemic. We’ve all heard the word “can’t”. It’s a word that stings, whether it’s whispered in doubt, shouted in defeat, or quietly believed in our darkest moments. For many, “can’t” is a full stop. For me, it became the beginning of something far bigger.

That’s how Project Can’t was born, not just as a phrase, but as a philosophy, a movement, and a mission to turn limitations into launchpads.

The Birth of Project Can’t

Project Can’t is the brainchild of a man named Deri Llewelyn Davies. It all started on a Zoom call, when I made the mistake of telling him I couldn’t climb to the Everest Summit, even though I had already reached Everest Base Camp and conquered Mount Kilimanjaro. That one word, “can’t,” lit a spark.

My own journey didn’t start in a boardroom or on a mountaintop. It started in a classroom where I was told that the only numbers I would make up were numbers on the benefit queues. When I was told I had no concept of the English language, I was repeatedly told that I would not make anything of myself. This continued in a hospital bed, paralysed from the waist down and staring down the barrel of a life I no longer recognised. “You can’t walk again.” “You can’t do sport.” “You can’t live independently.” The world handed me a dictionary of limits.

But I wasn’t willing to live on their terms.

Instead, I decided to reclaim the word “can’t” and make it my fuel. Project Can’t is about that fire. It’s about proving to yourself, and the world, that the word can’t doesn’t define your ending. It defines your challenge.

What Project Can’t Stands For

At its core, Project Can’t is a rebellion. Against doubt. Against fear. Against societal limitations. But it’s also a rally cry for anyone who’s ever been told they’re not enough.

This project celebrates:

  • Personal Grit: those who keep going long after the odds stack up.
  • Everyday Heroes: people who rise again after a fall, whether mentally, physically, or emotionally.
  • Community Support: because no mountain is climbed alone.

From extreme athletes with disabilities to parents rebuilding after loss, Project Can’t represents the stories we don’t often hear, but desperately need to.

“Can’t” Is the C-Word We Challenge

For us, “can’t” is more than just a word; it’s the one we challenge daily. In fact, among our team, we jokingly call it “the C-word.” The rule? You say it, you do it. Figuratively (and sometimes literally). It’s a mindset shift.

How You Can Join the Movement

This isn’t just my journey, it’s ours. And we’ve created ways for you to get involved:

Merch with Meaning: Our Project Can’t gear will soon be launched and isn’t about fashion; it’s about owning your journey. Every hoodie, t-shirt, and wristband carries the message: “Proving That You Can.”

Share Your Story: If you’ve turned a “can’t” into a “can,” we want to hear about it. Our platform showcases genuine stories of courage from everyday individuals.

Partner With Us: We’re looking to start working with schools, companies, and communities to deliver talks, workshops, and campaigns that challenge what people think is possible.

What Lies Ahead for Project Can’t

We’re still young as a movement, but we’re already laying strong foundations for the future. Right now, we’re focusing on two core pillars: Can’t Adventures and Can’t Expeditions

Can’t Adventures is all about pushing ourselves to experience more of what life has to offer. Whether it’s adaptive sports, unique challenges, or simply stepping outside of our comfort zones, it’s about chasing new adventures and refusing to be held back.

Can’t Expeditions, on the other hand, is focused on reaching some of the highest summits in the world. These are the big climbs, the life-defining challenges that test our physical and mental limits. It’s where we prove, once again, that the word “can’t” has no place in our vocabulary.

Together, these two strands will carry the spirit of Project Can’t forward: one challenge, one climb, one story at a time.

From ‘Can’t’ to Can

The word “can’t” nearly broke me. But today, I wear it like armour. It’s what pushes me to train for Everest. It’s what fuels me when the pain kicks in. And it’s what keeps me believing in myself and in the power of others to rise again.

Project Can’t is my way of saying: “Prove them wrong. Prove yourself right.”

If you’re ready to turn “can’t” into your fuel, you’re already one of us.
