Men do not have the right to talk about menopause!

Menopause is a natural biological process

Men Talk about Menopause, who has ever heard of such a crazy concept? However, Menopause is a natural biological process that marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years. It typically occurs in their late 40s or early 50s and is characterised by a range of physical and emotional symptoms, including hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep disturbances. However, it’s important to remember that menopause doesn’t just affect women; it impacts their partners and relationships as well.

Menopause can be a challenging time for women

Menopause can be a challenging time for women, both physically and emotionally. The hormonal changes that accompany this phase of life can lead to a variety of symptoms, making day-to-day life more difficult. But what often goes unnoticed is the role that men play in this equation. Men are not mere bystanders in the menopause journey; they are active participants in the lives of the women going through it, typically as spouses or partners.

It is crucial for men to understand menopause and its effects on women. This understanding can help men provide better support to their partners during this challenging time. Menopause is not a taboo subject, and discussing it openly is the first step toward creating a supportive and understanding environment within relationships and society at large.

I have made a conscious decision to educate myself about menopause

As a man, I have made a conscious decision to educate myself about menopause to better understand my wife and enhance our relationship. I don’t see discussing menopause as an act of bravery, but rather as a responsible and compassionate choice. Just as I speak about breaking down barriers around disability and promoting inclusivity in my professional life, I believe that talking openly about menopause is equally important for creating a more empathetic and inclusive society.

In all my businesses, I have fostered an environment where conversations about menopause are encouraged. At Blue Koala, my office solutions business, we openly discuss menopause, as several occupants are currently experiencing it. In See No Bounds our business network we do interviews and create conversions.  This approach and openness have allowed us to be more understanding when menopause-related challenges, like brain fog, arise.

Brave or chastised

What bothers me is when I’m commented on for being “brave” or chastised for discussing menopause as a man. I am not brave; I am informed and committed to supporting my wife and our marriage. Men should not be discouraged from engaging in conversations about menopause; instead, they should be encouraged to do so. After all, if we want better understanding and support in any aspect of life, we must create an environment where unbiased conversations are welcome.

In conclusion

Men do not have the right to talk about menopause; they have a responsibility to do so. Menopause is not solely a women’s issue; it’s a shared experience within a relationship. By fostering open and informed discussions about menopause, we can break down the stigma, improve understanding, and provide better support for the women we love. It’s not an act of bravery; it’s a commitment to a healthier, more loving, and more successful relationship.
